Microsat-R is an imaging satellite intended for military usage and is designed, developed and assembled by multiple laboratories of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

Kalamsat-V2 is an experimental student built satellite which piggybacked Microsat-R using the PS4 platform. So far, stage 4 usually goes as waste after launching satellites into orbit. This mission would be experimental and hence tries to use PS4 platform for conducting various experiments. ISRO plans to use PS4 used stage as an orbiting platform for future experiments.
